Paris 25 Augt - 1883
My dear Mr Kinder Since my last I have been travelling in Germany, Holland
and Belgium - To my great surprise on the eve of my return to Paris (on the
22 inst) I received a telegram from Mr Lawford concerning the death of Mr
Burnett by Typhoid fever. It was a severe blow to me and how much more to his
beloved wife. - I have written to try to comfort her but I am afraid she will
not be comforted. I think I will take a [run] over England to see her and also
get a gentleman out to take Mr Burnett's place - for you know we cannot spare
you in the north besides. I think you prefer to be there on account of the
climate. - My trip to Brazil has been fixed on the 20th September. - I hope
everything goes well at Kaiping also at the West hills Peking. - I saw
Belsham in London and hope he will give you satisfaction.
Kindly remember me to Mrs Kinder and ask her to accept the enclosed photo -
With my best regards
Yours truly
