Description:
|
A railway construction scene where a steep cliff overlooking a wide river estuary or the sea has been chopped back to allow for the laying of the rail bed at an unidentified location, but very possibly near Shanhaikwan (Shanhaiguan) . The distant tank engine appear to be a Rogers 2-6-0t (six were ordered in 1897) for the Peking-Hankow Railway but later transferred to IRNC. (A3/146)
