This is a parade of Chinese soldiers belonging to the British 'First Chinese Regiment" raised at Wei Hai Wei in Shantung province. During the “Boxer” troubles this regiment was dispatched to Tientsin, where they fought bravely and well during the defence of the international settlement. Their British officer is on the left of the picture. (A2/26)
