Description:
A train of four-wheeled wooden carriages and wagons headed by Stephenson “ogee” tank locomotive no.3 at Hsukochuang, aka Sukochwang, (胥各莊 s:胥各庄Xugezhuang). On the platform are several European and Chinese officials. The white-helmeted European on the left is probably Claude Kinder. Near the feet of this figure is a bag with a large label bearing the letters “CWK”. The Chinese caption describes this scene as a passenger train leaving “Suchwang” (客車出胥莊). This photo was probably taken shortly after No.2 and No.3 locomotives were acquired in 1882 or perhaps on the occasion of celebrating the opening of the extension to Lutai in April 1887.
