A British soldier is seen lowering a Union Jack on the platform on what might be Shanhaikwan station. There is a Chinese honour guard also present with a Chinese officer. This ceremony is believed to be the formal handing over the railway to Chinese civilian control and the withdrawal of the allied forces in 1902. (A6/51)
