Description:
Kaiping railway locomotive No.2 with a four-wheel engineer’s car at an unidentified station. Two of these 0-6-0 tank locomotives (Nos. 2 and 3) were purchased for the Chinese Engineering and Mining Company in 1882 from Robert Stephenson & Co. of Newcastle in England (builder’s Ns. 2397 and 2398 of 1881). These were the first standard-gauge locomotives imported into China. The tank engines have an unusual “Ogee” shaped saddle tank. (A5/5)
