The winding gear at Tongshan colliery.1880-81. There are two European supervisors in the picture. On the right is almost certainly the then chief engineer Robert Reginald Burnett. Burnett was transferred from Tongshan to other mining ventures in south China in 1882 but he contracted typhoid and died in Shanghai in August 1883 (A8/36)
