Photograph of D. Poyntz Ricketts, Engineer-in-Chief and General Manager of the Imperial Railways of North China and subsequently the Peking-Mukden Railway. Ricketts was appointed to this position in February 1910 over the head of A.G. Cox, who had been his superior. Kinder had recommended Cox as his successor in 1909 but his recommendation was disregarded and the position was initially awarded to A.W.H. Bellingham, who previously but no longer at that time worked for the railway. Bellingham, however, died before taking office and Cox then acted as Engineer-in-Chief for almost one year before Rickets was promoted over his head. Kinder regarded this as another personal snub by the then directors of the company, with whom he had fallen out.
