This map depicts the two routes by the ships Alceste and Lyra in the Eastern and Yellow sea from July to September. The map was published in the book 'Voyage of His Majesty's Ship Alceste, to China, Corea, and the Island of Lewchew' by John McLeod a military surgeon aboard the Alceste with the details from the trip. Murray Maxwell (1775-1831), captain of the Alceste, left England in February 9th of 1816 arriving in China on July and going through the coast of China to reach the coast of Korea on September 1st. With this exploration the Korean coast started to be corrected on maps.
