Note:
This is a not very accurate sketch of Macau, Taipa, Coloane, surrounding islands and the coast of China. The anonymous map seems to be drawn by someone that was never in the region, most probably from an oral or written description. The compass rose is not exactly indicating north and even though Taipa -here still divided in two islands- and Coloane are correctly placed in relation to each other, they are incorrect in relation to the Macau Peninsula. The Green Island is also marked. The Pearl River is incorrectly positioned on the West side of Macau. The map has a lot of notes both on land and on sea, the latter are most to navigational aid. On the Lapa Island there is a note confirming Jesuit presence and there is also the Casa Branca in Qianshan. On Macau are given the position of some forts and churches, the city and the Chinese village. Beyond the Macau isthmus there is a building which seems to be a wrongly placed Guia Fort for the note states it is a church of Lady Mary that the Dutch wanted to take form the Portuguese but were not able due to a miracle.
