The map depicts a stylized built-up area typical of a plan. It has a legend on the right bottom corner underneath the title that identifies 10 toponyms: the Border Gate -refered only as a wall separating the Portuguese land from the Chinese land-; the Green Island as being used by the Jesuits; the unnamed Chinese village Wangxia; the A-Ma Temple -named as 'Pagode Chinoise'. However the most detail is given to military information such as where the vessels are built in Lapa; the location of the harbors; the major fortification of Monte (Nossa Senhora de Monté); the Barra fortress (S. Iago & S. Philippe); the Penha fortress (Nossa S.ra de Penha); the bastion of Nossa S.ra do Bom Parto and the Guia fort (Nossa S.ra de Guia) where a lighthouse was built some years later. Two anchors mark the location of the Inner Harbor.
Note:
Original is a colored manuscript map from the manuscript 'Relation du Premier voyage des François a la Chine' by François Froger.
Note:
