This hydrographic chart was made according to the surveys of General Castello Branco in 1907. It depicts the detailed soundings between Macao and Wanzai; Macao, Taipa and Coloane and even the 'Nove Ilhas'. According to the legend on the right bottom corner all the dotted places with no values are muddy which, if we notice, seem to be a lot of space near the Peninsula and Islands. Thus the problem with trade by sea in these territories during the 18th and 19th century. The depiction of buildings is geometrical, typical of a plan with the most important buildings marked: the Border Gate, the Forts, the Ports, churches and hospitals, cemeteries and pagodas and even some beaches.
