This is a rare and striking large-scale early 19th century chart of the mouth of the Pearl River focusing on the region around Macao and Hong Kong. The map includes lengthy annotations on the Chart's sources and on the topography of Macao, Canton and the Pearl River area. The main map has Macao as its prime meridian and the longitude is extended to both sides. The geography of the Pearl River Mouth coastline and surrounding islands are drawn in great detail and it is given great importance to the coastal islands and routes. There are large text descriptions. On west side bank of the Pearl River Estuary is marked 'Insel Macao' which is actually Xiangshan County and the Macao Peninsula; its northwestern sea surface is marked with 'Breite Weg' (lit. Wide Way), which is the waterway from Macao to Guangzhou in the early days. In the surrounding area, there are the islands Typa (Taipa Island), Apomi, Ko-ho (Apowei, Jiuao, or Coloane), Hengqin, Wanchai, etc. On the lower center there is also a detailed inset with the Harlem & Bias Bays to the North of Mirs Bay. Hong Kong is well detailed and named, as is Lantau and Lamma. Ty-tam Bai is also identified. The lower right hand areas are filled with well-detailed profile views to facilitate navigation and orientation.
