This nautical chart depicts the South China Sea with the coasts of Vietnam and China, including the Island of Hainan, the Paracel Islands, the Philippines and a small south tip of Taiwan. Made most likely as navigational aid it displays some soundings with place names along the coast lines with inland mostly blank. The Paracel bank is in the Vaz Dourado type and, along with other shoals and sand banks, is colored yellow. It is already accompanied by the triangular set on its northeast side with the designation 'Croix de S.t Anthoine ou Les Lunettes".

There is a 32-point compass rose on the map with a fleur-de-lis indicating north. The rhumb lines for the principal winds in bold lines, the half-winds in dashed lines and the quarter-winds in simple lines.
