Note:
This is a nautical chart of the strait of Solor a volcanic island on the tip of the Flores Island in the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia, in the Solor Archipelago. As the title states it was made according to a Portuguese manuscript to aid in the navigation between Macau and Timor, both places with a strong Portuguese presence since the 16th century. Portuguese Dominican priests built a fortress, also marked on the map, in the Lamakera Island -here named Lamaquera. Constantly targeted by the Dutch for many years was kept by either one power or the other. A number of notes regarding depths, tides, winds are scattered on the map to help in navigation.
