This map is formed by a big main plan of the city of Macau with two insets at the bottom of the side view of said city and of the mouth of the Tiger. From 1781 to 1785, Lafitte -a colonial engineer officer who became a geographer in 1786- drew three watercolors of Macau. On this particular one, for the big plan it can be seen Macau depicted as a peninsula with the Border Gate up north separating the 'Westerners territory' just as the legend states. The main focus is clearly military with the soundings and all the forts correctly positioned and identified in the legends as well as all the strategic places where are located the sets of artillery pieces. The drawing of the city, the streets and buildings, are depicted in detail -14 churches are marked with cross symbols- in a geometric setting, common use in plans. The terrain is drawn with watercolor shades to express the relief completed with drawings of trees and fields. On Chinese territory the farmlands and villages are also accurately drawn.
